Hi, Alex. Welcome back!
1. Where do I do the tagging? online? in Word? in Notepad?
I use Word for everything, because Word allows me the full range of features I'd use, like search-and-replace, auto-insert, and other things which can speed up coding. The only advantage to doing it in WordPad or NotePad is that the program is simple and you know it'll always be saved as text-only (since that's what these programs do). If you do it in Word, you'll have to remember to "Save-As" text-only (plain text) each time. If you save it in any other format, the browser won't be able to read it properly.
2. Once I've done some sample tagging How can I see what it looks like online?
Drag-and-drop it into an open browser window. I always keep two windows open: the Word window in which I'm doing the actual writing, and the Internet Explorer or Netscape window in which I view the results. You can leave both open, edit in Word, save, go to Explorer, hit "refresh," and view the results. Easy as 1-2-3. And you don't have to be online to do any of this. Just make sure your computer is not set to dial automatically as soon as you open Explorer.
If you use a graphical editor like PageMill or Dreamweaver or FrontPage, these programs do have a feature that allows you to view the rendered results as they would look in Explorer or Netscape. Problem is, they're never really accurate. To see what something would look like in Explorer or Netscape, you really have to view it *in* Explorer or Netscape.
3. How do I send the sample to you?
For now, email everything to me at . Once you become fluent with the process, assuming you still want to do the work, I'll give you direct access to your chosen directory and you can have complete control yourself and do the actual uploading. But that's a while down the road.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing your results. I myself have been incommunicado and have done very little other than management for the Library for six weeks now due to a long and difficult many-staged move from North Carolina to Vancouver BC (different parts of the family had to go to Ottawa, Toronto, Tennessee, Montana, Oregon, and Syracuse at different times in those six weeks! A mess... :-)
