July 11th

I had some difficulty sleeping last night. I was thinking of the Friends in Iran, their upcoming trial and what course their fate may take. It would seem, given the state of things in Iran right now, that in all likelihood they will be executed. I pray I'm wrong. It serves to remind me how truly for...

Re: Women and equality?

Hello, I like your theory Adib, it validates this quote: It must be also clearly understood by every believer that the institution of Guardianship does not under any circumstances abrogate, or even in the slightest degree detract from, the powers granted to the Universal House of Justice by Bahá’u’l...

Re: Buddhist or Bahai?

Hi Seeker, Congratulations on whatever choice you go with. I believe very much in Progressive Revelation, each previous dispensation has similar things to offer. This makes sense to me as it all comes from the same source (God). As mankind progresses, we are "updated", so to speak, with ne...

Re: Having girlfriend/boyfriend even though you are a Bahai?

By "elderly Baha'i youth", I take it you mean 17-20 year olds? I don't know that there any rigid guidelines other than what was already stated by Truth. Personally, they are enough. I don't see why a Baha'i can't have a bf/gf relationship. How else are you to know someone in life without h...

Hi Seeker,

Can you elaborate a little more on what you mean by direct experience and touching God?

Re: Praying to God?

I'll give this a shot, my opinion only. A mediator is necessary between man and the Creator- How can our minds quantify the infinite? I don't think God is some wizened old man in space who wears sandals and a robe. God truly is the Unknowable Essence. As man is the "Supreme Talisman", what...

Re: Praying to God?

When I pray, it's almost always to God. I may pray to Baha'u'llah if I'm thinking about him and the trials he suffered or what not. There's nothing in the writings of any sort that says we MUST pray THROUGH Baha'u'llah to get to God. Hope this helps.

Re: Satan

Morning, The idea that there was another persona (Satan) who was could oppose God and thwart his plans always seemed farcical to me (just my opinion). I picture him in his secret lair (A.K.A.: Lake of FIRE!! MUAHAH!!) hatching new schemes to steal souls from God.... That idea totally negates the gre...

Re: Discussing the Faith with others...

Hello, Nice topic btw. Personally, it doesn't sound like you're "debating" to me. I could see if you were arguing along the lines of: "No, you're wrong because of this/that...", but if you're just explaining your position on a belief or ethic then it doesn't seem to be a bad thin...

Re: Prayer in bahai faith?

Hello, Haven't posted in a while. I was purusing the forum and stumbled upon this thread and noticed this: LONG obligatory prayer This takes approximately 15 minutes to say. I usually say this one at the end of the night when ive got time for myself. Does not involve face-washing (a.k.a. "abult...

Re: ok to given your leftover food to beggars in the street?

Hi BB,

I personally see no problem with doing that. I've been asked for cash by beggars before and who knows what they'd spend it on (drugs, booze, etc.)? So I figure why not give them some food that they probably need anyways.

Cheers,

I too opt for the one-on-one conversation. I don't feel comfortable in "structured" situations outside of firesides, and if I don't feel comfortable, I find I can't express myself properly and fear missing anything important.

Hi Richard, Not completely "ghosted" out to be sure. Do you think we are we complacent, apathetic, or just few in numbers, or all three? Probably a small dose of the three, there are a ton of good threads on this forum that demand more in-depth answers than can be punched out in few keystr...

Welcome Peter, I've also just discovered this site within the last year and find it a unique place for teaching and deepening opportunities. As a Baha'i, it's always heartwarming and uplifting when someone who is seeking begins their investigation into the Faith. Speaking for myself, I hope I can be...

Re: Kingship - The Shadow of God on Earth

Hi RW, It's always nice to see youth questioning and researching the writings, what better way to become acquainted with them!! I always hassled my dad with a barrage of questions about the Faith when I was a teenager, kept him sharp on it too and we both learned. What previous faith did you convert...

Re: Kingship - The Shadow of God on Earth

Hi RW, I hope you don't mind a mid-thirties response ;). When I read quotes like these, I try to keep them in their context and reflect on the time period they were written. I am of the opinion that the institution of kingship had a profound importance in maintaining the unity of nations. "The ...

This article caught my eye....

http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/Default.pl?id=25373 It's always interesting to me when I find mention of the Faith in news articles (as brief as this one may be). CNN's web page later followed up on the story and was informed by Iranian officials that the explosion was due to a mishandling...
