Re: Note to moderator(s)

Yeah Paltalk is a great venue for discussions about the Faith. I know of at least one Arabic and Persian Baha'i chat room. The Arabic one is very popular; one of my friends moderates it and he's said there have been a lot of success stories in teaching Arabs the Faith through that chat room. I've be...

Re: newbie baha'i questions

Hello Joshua! You've had quite a journey! :o I am elated to know that the fundamental verities of the Baha'i Faith have touched you so deeply. I will do my best to answer your questions. Is there an official religious text? I know there are multiple books on the tablets of Baha’u’llah but I’m just w...

Thank you for the reference Bruce, I will read it when I get the chance and get back to you at some point, Just want clarification on one point, you said We are specifically discouraged from reading covenant-breaker material, although this isn't forbidden outright. that seems to be slightly differe...

Re: Bah'ulllahs Photographs

I understand what you mean by the above, but to arrive at a fair conclusion of the Baha'i community and its beliefs, I believe that I should read both the negative and positive things written about the community. Fair enough. I can't find it online; perhaps you could request it on inter-library loa...

Re: Bah'ulllahs Photographs

That's probably William Miller, a Presbyterian missionary who was always very hostile towards the Faith. The photograph was published in his polemical work, Baha'ism, Its Origin, History and Teachings. My uncle owns this book and the picture is there.

Re: Bah'ulllahs Photographs

Dear Cloud Seeker, Baha'u'llah's photograph can be found at the bottom of the Wikipedia article under his name. This is also the same photograph as the one in the International Archives Building at the Baha'i World Centre in Haifa, Israel, which the letter you provided refers to. I wonder about this...

Dear Truth,

Juan Cole is not a covenant-breaker. He is just someone who has withdrawn from the Faith.

Re: Can Someone Answer My Question?

Dear Abu Talib, First, the suggestion that the concept of the realm of Hurqaliyyah ('Alam-i Mithal) and the twin cities of Jubalqa and Jabalsa/Jabarsa started with Shaykh Ahmad al-Ahsa'i is not true. These notions are at least as old as the great Muslim philosopher Shahab al-Din Suhrawardi the found...

Re: Women and equality?

Hello Highmountain! How's the weather up there? ;) It seems to me that Baha'u'llah intended this precedence in education to act as a "catch up" period for women as well as a test of their faith (so many tests!!). Perhaps when the next manifestation arrives, he will abrogate that law. Perha...

Re: Women and equality?

Great discussion! Sen, I completely agree with your sentiment that the rationale lies in the state of the world itself rather than the inherent qualities of women. Since we're on the subject of theories I suppose I'll give my old one a shot...I warn you though, it's far-fetched! We have the followin...

Re: Women and equality?

Hi Juan, Nobody really knows why women are ineligible for membership on the House at this point, although many have their own opinions. When you get right down to it, we can only look back on what `Abdu'l-Baha once said: that the reason for this will one day become as clear as the noonday sun in the...

Re: Questions about the Bahai Faith

So, while the lack of previous female Manifestations may be due to a different function in the nature of men and women (e.g., men being seen as mightier--appropriate perhaps for a Bringer of divine laws, especially in the relatively immature stages of humanity's development), this is not due to a l...

I'm a youth (18 to be exact) so I can relate. :) I totally understand what you mean. I'm in my senior year of high school, and people have asked me on numerous occasions to go over to their house to smoke a bowl of pot or attend parties where beer is as common as water anywhere else. But surprisingl...

Hi SpiritualSeeker, I'm pressed for time so I can't provide you with scriptural evidence for all of these things, but I'm sure some other Baha'is will be able to help out with that: 1. The fall from power of the French Emperor Napoleon III and the consquent loss of his empire. 2. The defeat of Germa...

Re: Number of Bahai's worldwide?

As for India, I read somewhere (cant verify) that most live in more rural and/or relatively disenfranchised areas. So they are there, but most just don't exactly have the opportunity to get out of the country and visit Baha'i communities around the world, or have computers and broadband to particip...

I did think of that but some communities have a tendency to re-elect the incumbents. Ours is an example.

LSA members to abdicate after a while?

Hello friends, Would anyone happen to know if there is a quote by The Guardian or anyone else recommending that LSA members eventually resign after a long term of service so as to bring a spirit of freshness into the community? Not in those words, but you get the idea. I've been wondering about this...

Debunking the Myths: My first book

Vladimir Lenin once said that a lie told often enough becomes truth. If one takes a look at the way Bahá'ís have been viewed and treated by their adversaries, particularly Muslim clerics from Shaykh Fazlollah Nuri to Falsafi to Dorri-Najafabadi and other leaders of the current Iranian regime, they w...
