Re: Another film of 'Abdu'l-Baha?

the Archives does not have a copy in Wilmette. Unless we are exceptionally lucky and this film was somehow preserved by a film library, at this point, a full century later, it is most likely lost to history. At one point copies were for sale through Star of the West. Brent

Re: Friend needs help with some tricky marriage questions

I personally think that these detailed legal questions -- civil law and Baha'i law -- should be referred to the Office of Community Administration at the Baha'i National Center community@usbnc.org or 847-869-9039.

Interesting that Shoghi Effendi uses both words here: ". . . 'Abdu'l-Bahá, the Center of His Covenant with all mankind and the appointed Interpreter and Expounder of His Word."

Re: Experience of Baha'i-Muslims

I have met a few, but my guess is that they are pretty careful not to be too public, because there are some who would view it as their religious duty to do away with them. One man I met some time ago said that as he grew up he had Baha'i classmates but never gave the Baha'i Faith much thought. Later...

Bruce's comments are not as denunciatory as you might first get the impression of. He posts in a large font, in bold, and this looks like shouting, but his points are well taken.

The book Zikrullah Khadem is excellent preparation for Pilgrimage.

Mr Khadem wrote essays about Pilgrimage and the Shrines that are in the back of that book. Excellent.

Re: Writing a will - easy as ABC?

The Guardian noted that the laws regarding wills are detailed and vary state to state; I don't have the reference, nor time to look it up. It was in his own hand, i.e. in God Passes By or Citadel of Faith, perhaps. The House of Justice does not want a template for a Baha'i will. Just as with the mar...

There are indications that the Bab directed that his followers tattoo their bodies with sacred symbols - the women with the daira, http://bahai-library.com/bab_daira_1 the men with the haykal http://bahai-library.com/bab_daira_haykal_1 Though it is not clear to me whether these were more in the natu...

I personally find Muhammad Asad's translation to be the easiest to read, and the translation that best communicates spiritual realities to the Western mind. This Wiki about him has a link at the bottom to his translation on line, or look it up on Amazon and buy the book. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...

Re: Sequencing the DNA of Baha'u'llah

Even in such a case, no one but a Guardian can appoint a successor Guardian. Only Shoghi Effendi could have appointed one; but all the Aghsan (Arabic for "branches" -- male descendants of Baha'u'llah) had died spiritually or physically -- not one was left within the Covenant.

Re: infidelity

Fidelity in marriage is a very big deal in the Baha'i Faith. The punishment for adultery is in both worlds; in other instances, the punishment is complete in this world, e.g. capital punishment for murder: http://reference.bahai.org/en/t/ab/SAB/sab-153.html In general I agree that in marriage absolu...

Robert Stockman says that Abdu'l-Baha's train route did not go through Schnectady nor was there time for Him to travel there. The only reference to this subject I know of is in one of Stanwood Cobb's books in which he quotes a Unitarian minister as the source of the story that Abdu'l-Baha toured Ste...

On page 71 of my version of the Iqan, Baha'u'llah explains that the meanings He is giving to the verses from previous Revelations, are themselves the huris no mind has previously understood, i.e. "untouched by any man." The 70 virgins and the 70 meanings of scripture mean the same thing: I...

Brett, the letter is dated 17 May 2009 and you can find it on the USBNC.ORG website under communications from the House of Justice. It does not say that the administrative portion is to be watered down. I read it to mean that non-Baha'is can now be accommodated at this portion of the Feast. Only mat...

If on the other hand, when I read a person like Hitchens, who opposes belief in the Deity -- if I observe the errors in his thinking, then I'm on solid ground and I keep rea...
