US/Canada history

Does anyone know who George Latimer's Baha'i teacher was? Lua Getsinger, perhaps? When and where would be good to know, too. Mr. Latimer taught Austin Collin who was one of the four original declarants in British Columbia according to Will van den Hoonard. The first, according to Austin, who was my ...

This link doesn't work: http://www.bahai-library.com/wiki/index.php/Medicine (404 - not found)

Is the project online at any other URL? Sounds very interesting.

Re: Hypnotherapy

I've studied hypnotherapy and agree that long term effects are rare. A nice hypnosis tape is useful, for example, to relax and get to sleep but the unconscious mind will, sooner or later, reassert itself, no matter how much we repeat the positive affirmations your conscious mind prefers. Hypnosis is ...

Re: Poetry Lives!

Thank you! It's really quite a spiffing hymn. Not crazy about " over o'er and o'er" but the rest is great. I checked out the link hoping to hear the music but could find only one entry attributed to Louise Waite (and none to Louise Spencer). It was a different poem (spoken) called New Year...

Re: Poetry Lives!

Okay, I guess that'd be a "no". Anybody know any Baha'i poets from that era? Are there collections of Baha'i poems online? Web sites? Since the Master says, "All poems shall be forgotten in the course of time save those that are extraordinary; thy poem shall be chanted with melody and...

Poetry Lives!

Does anyone know the poet 'Abd'ul-Baha writes to here? http://reference.bahai.org/en/t/ab/TAB/tab-57.html The next few letters are also to poets but perhaps not the same one. O thou who art attracted by the Fragrances of God! Verily, I chanted thy poem. Its significance was beautiful, its compositio...

Re: Baha'i teachings re withholding sex in marriage

I had a friend who might have been the young wife whose husband refused to have sexual relations with her. She consulted the Assembly they both served on and the consultation concluded that, serious as the situation was, it was not grounds for Baha'i divorce. I was outraged, at the time, until the w...

Re: Baha'i teachings re withholding sex in marriage

Sex is something you do for a purpose: to make babies, enjoy intimacy, relieve stress, placate someone ... Placating" (defined as an action taken to "make someone less angry or hostile") can be a choice, but if it's somehow enforced is this not the very definition of rape and/or sexua...

Re: Did Charles (Carl) Steinmetz meet 'Abdu'l-Baha?

So there it is. Not much else to be said regarding my theory at least for now. Meanwhile, it's cheery to note that the records kept in heaven are undoubtedly much more accurate than our poor efforts here on earth. Btw, my second question to Mr. Redman was regarding the identity of the book I origina...

Re: Did Charles (Carl) Steinmetz meet 'Abdu'l-Baha?

Here is the email response I got from Earl Redman: I'm afraid I can't advance the discussion. In rereading Cobb's note in Memories, it is obvious that the story came from Rev Moore and was not witnessed by Cobb. I did read a blog by someone who met Cobb in which he indicated that Cobb had been there...

Re: Did Charles (Carl) Steinmetz meet 'Abdu'l-Baha?

Wow, and there's a Kindle edition, too. The Amazon blurb says, "Rather than focusing on the public talks he gave, inspiring though these were, it narrates how 'Abdu’l-Baha affected and transformed the lives of those he met, described in their own words." I wonder how Redman knows that Stan...

Re: Did Charles (Carl) Steinmetz meet 'Abdu'l-Baha?

You'd think, wouldn't you? Unfortunately, it was my husband on the phone and they simply don't do that in his family. Very polite people. I've often admired that and at least as often have not. The very strongest statement allowed is a soft-spoken "Well" with very little emphasis and absol...

Re: Did Charles (Carl) Steinmetz meet 'Abdu'l-Baha?

This is an interesting question to me because my husband's grandfather was a close friend of Steinmetz and also worked at the General Electric plant in Schenectady in 1912. In the early 1990s, I read (in a Baha'i book about 'Abdu'l-Baha's travels in North America; sorry, but I don't recall the title...
