I just read a story in a very interesting book of stories told by 'Abdu'l-Baha. While the book is copyrighted, I'll paraphrase the story as I remember it...
There was a man who told another man that since Jesus required that one turn the other cheek, he hit the man and told him that he ought to turn the other cheek and let him hit him again. And he did. He told him the same thing the next day, and the man was twice hit again.
Finally on the third day, the man stopped him and said, "Didn't Jesus make this command of turning the other cheek for all of humanity?". He then hit the man twice... :)
'Abdu'l-Baha apparently told this story in the context of the fact that disarmament required all countries to do so multilaterally and not just one or two...
