Baha'i Music

Postby Fadl » Mon Jan 07, 2008 6:33 am

I was interested in what Baha'i groups are popular here. One of my personal favorite groups is Smith and Dragoman. http://www.smithanddragoman.com http://www.myspace.com/smithanddragoman Very moving, powerfully orchestrated music with well-crafted lyrics focusing on the the lives of the Bab and Baha'u'llah as well as the letters of the living, martyrs, and holy families.

How about you?

Hi!

In addition to enjoying various Baha'i performers, I sing in several Baha'i chorales, including the Vouces of Baha and Baha'i Gospel Singers touring choirs!

And in these choirs, a fair percentage of our music is composed by the conductors of these choirs! I'd say they compose half to two-thirds of our songs.

In addition, we sing songs by other Baha'i composers as well as works by other conemporary composers and traditional works (such as gospel and spirituals).

All in all, it adds up to a nice variety of quality pieces!

Best regards, :-)

Bruce

I really like the album "City of Love" by "Minarets of the West"...

God_Keep_Me_In_The_Way, I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but there are a number of artists who chant or sing Baha'i Holy verses... Maybe you can ask your local community if you are in touch with them?

Hi!

You should go to http://www.divinenotes.com You can hear samples of Baha'i artists and buy downloads there. They have many Persian chanters there that might be what you are looking for.

I think I purchased it at the House of Worship in Wilmette a while ago, but it doesn't look like the distribution service is carrying it at their site.

I see one of the artists has an album at http://www.mytexasmusic.com/joannagipso ... ipson.html

One of the songs there is also on the album City of Love: http://www.mytexasmusic.com/joannagipso ... icture.mp3

I can't read or wouldn't trust the other sites that I found on the net.

The only other thing I could suggest is trying to contact the person at this blog who says her mother was in the band:

http://www.incogblogo.net/index.php/blo ... ents/2132/

If you can find it, I think it should be worth the trouble, because all of the songs are really high professional quality. If you like the songs the Smith and Dragoman group is supposed to be similar to (I haven't heard them), I think you'll like this one for sure.

best wishes,
Brett

Thanks for the info Brett, I'll definitely check them out! But you never listened to Smith and Dragoman? Bad on you! You should give them a listen, you're missing out on something really special.
