A while back ago ... we had the pleasure of downloading a massive
amount of the spoken Word ....
all sorts of recordings
we recently listened to
Communication: The Key to Expansion
Roger Coe
published in Baha'i News
February 1986
written text is located here ...
http://74.125.45.104/custom?q=cache:hHp ... cd=9&gl=us
while listening we heard ...
"In view of the fact that at the present time...fully developed and comprehensively learned individuals are hard to come by, and the government and people are in dire need of order and direction, it is essential to establish a body of scholars the various groups of whose membership would each be expert in one of the aforementioned branches of knowledge (in preceding passages, these are cited as "knowledge of the sacred Scriptures and the entire field of divine and natural science, of religious jurisprudence and the arts of government and the varied learning of the time and the great events of history..."). This body should with the greatest energy and vigor deliberate as to all present and future requirements, and bring about equilibrium and order."{22}
and it got us thinking about "and the great events of history"
hmmm ...
what on earth would a list / curriculum of the great events of history be like
????
then ... today ... we were listening to someone's description of our True Brother
and his teaching style ... speaker was hesitant to use the term style ...
{for how is one to describe the Divine} ... *smile* ... yet ... the speaker went on to say
something along the lines of progressive revelation as a style of Teaching / writing ...
*smile*
{citing ... how the North American believers were educated ... The Dispensation of Baha'u'llah ... how only 8 NSA where at the time of ... etc ... et all}
yes ...
progressive revelation as a style of Teaching / writing
*smile* ... yes ... we like that thought ...
and we wish to become educated into the great events of history
so ... we pondered ... what would a list of the great events of history be like ...
we imagined the secular world would list
this that and the other thing ... *smile*
and much of what a secularist might say we would agree with
yet ... we wish to have a divine list ...
as typing we have thought of
the birth of any Manifestation of God ...
think of Jesus for a second ...
wow ... talk about one of the greatest events of History ...
the birth of Jesus surely most be among the top of our list
*smile*
so ....
does anyone know of any curriculum on the great events of history ???
does anyone have anything they would add to our list ... ???
the discovery of America ... ???
{would that count}
all things Americana ???
{would that count}
moveable type / printing press
{we hear China should get predominate credit}
aethiesm
{hmmm ... pretty ugly ... should that count ... ???}
The Covenant of Baha'u'llah
an absolute must
*smile*
hmmm ...
your thoughts / prayers / dialogue appreciated
oneness,
dh

Re: and the great events of history
we would add to our list
the life of Socrates
we also might wish to define history as
all things prior to The Birth of Baha'u'llah
after all for the believers
The Birth of Baha'u'llah represents Life
everlasting
and history represents that which hath pasted
*smile*

Re: and the great events of history
we would also like to see a branch of history entitled
"living history"
or something like it ... *smile*
based upon historical events/people that are specifically mentioned by
The Three Central Figures of our Faith
The Bab
Baha'u'llah
Abdu'l Baha
basically living history will delve into our Writings and mine out
those people and events that are specifically mentioned within our Writings
we can ascertain that certain aspects of history can be living by
noticing how Baha'u'llah stretches the Baha'i {Badi} calendar into a brief period of time
prior to the Declaration of The Bab ...
hmmm ...
living history may include
at some point in the future
or perhaps instead be called religious history
we think we like the term living history more than the term religious history
"living history" is more a paradoxical term
while religious history a finite term
so ... yes ... we think living history is an appropriate term
and useful as classification in studies of the great events of history
*smile*
some areas of interest in living history
will be
The Letters of the Living
The Disciples of Baha'u'llah
The Heralds of The Covenant
The Hands of the Cause of God
The Manifestations of God
The Men of God {devoted followers of The Manifestations}
the building of the Kingdom of God {churches,mosques,synagogues,etc.}
any mention of Historical events or people within the Writings
of The Three Central Figures of our Faith
hmmm ... the building of the Kingdom of God
may also have to include the people and events associated with
our Guardian and The Universal House of Justice ...
{yes ... fascinating studies within this field}
imagine knowing the people and events associated with
in any given local in the building of the Kingdom of God
{churches,mosques,synagogues,etc.}
ok ... smile ... so ...
maybe we should build a web page ...
oneness.

Holy Places ... Ádharbáyján, Iran
There are a number of Bahá'í holy places associated with the life of the Báb in this province. The ruins of the fortresses of Chihríq and Mákú where the Báb was imprisoned; the citadel in Tabriz where the Báb was kept and the public square where he was executed; the building in Mílán to which the remains of the Báb were taken after his execution; the apartment and public baths in Urúmiyyih used by the Báb. Most of these being public buildings have never been in Bahá'í hands.

Re: and the great events of history
"There are varieties of ways in which history can be organized, including chronologically, culturally, territorially, and thematically. These divisions are not mutually exclusive, and significant overlaps are often present, as in "The International Women's Movement in an Age of Transition, 1800–1945." It is possible for historians to concern themselves with both the very specific and the very general, although the modern trend has been toward specialization. The area called Big History resists this specialization, and searches for universal patterns or trends. History has often been studied with some practical or theoretical aim, but also may be studied out of simple intellectual curiosity.[9]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History
"History is a field of research producing a continuous narrative and a systematic analysis of past events of importance to the human race.[1] Those who study history as a profession are called historians."
"The modern discipline of history is dedicated to the institutional production of this discourse."

The Centrality of the Cross
http://www.reformationtheology.com/2006 ... friday.php
This unified purpose for history suggests a unified theme around which all of history is designed. What is the superlative way in which God might be displayed for who he is? Find the answer to that question, and you will discover the goal toward which all of history is striving together. Fortunately, the scriptures do not leave us ignorant of this unifying theme; it is nothing other than God’s mightiest act of all: the redemption of his people. All of history is redemptive history; because redemption is the greatest display of God’s essential nature that could have been formulated in the mind of God. Hence, matters related to the accomplishment of redemption are unexceptionally the great events of history and at the same time the great revelations of God.
