Q. Does Ocean work on Macs?
A. Yes, Ocean works fine on Macs but I'm not sure which Windows emulator is best. Besides being a superior hardware platform, one of the amazing things about the Macintosh is that it can, through Windows emulation, run almost all the software in the world.

I'd like to download Ocean onto a 2011 Macbook Pro OS X. Which Windows emulator would you recommend?

Thank you!

For those who don't want the hassle of running an emulator, or like me own older Macs, there's an easy solution: Steve Dighton's Mac-only program Archive, downloadable for free from schoolmarmwood.org. From the website: "Schoolmarm Wood Publications was founded in March 2000 as a means of providing affordable Bahá'í Software for Mac users. It now offers that software as a free download and has expanded its offerings to include Bahá'í inspired Art and Video DVD's."

Oh, and the website http://bahairesearch.com has most of the same content as Ocean; according to its History page it was designed to be "a new version of the popular 'Ocean' program. One with more texts, Arabic support and both a Windows PC and web interface."

Virtual PC worked fairly well for me waaay back when I was using a Mac... But don't they have dual boot now (is it "Boot Camp"?) and even 3rd party options which emulate directly using the hardware like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallels_Desktop_for_Mac ?

A version of Ocean is now available for Macs, tho' I think it leaves a lot to be desired. E.g., all texts are embeded and there's no way to add add'l material. It was simply converted using Pine and includes an embedded version of NotePad.

Archive does run on OSX Lion.

BTW, you can copy unlocked pdf files to Textedit, and save them as rtf/rtfd files to use in Archive. Graphics are kept separate, but once you locate a passage refering to a graphic, it's pretty easy to doubleclick on the file in the Archive folder, open it in textedit and find what you're looking for.

I'm moving what I don't already have in Archive (Teherzadeh and Balyuzi mostly) into Archive.

BTW, for some reason Archive doesn't have Selections fm the Bab, and Ward's "239 Days" in Ocean crashes NotePad.
