The Baha'i DAY OF THE COVENANT begins tonight at sundown. Also this weekend, Protestants and Catholics observe the FEAST OF CHRIST THE KING, commemorating the Jesus' kingship over the earth and the teaching that he will return at the end of time to judge all humanity. The feast marks the last Sunday of the western liturgical calendar.

On or about Monday, depending on the sighting of the new moon, the Muslim community in America and around the world will begin the month-long fast of RAMADAN, when Muslims abstain from food, drink and other sensual pleasures from the break of dawn to sunset. The fast is performed as a way of learning discipline, self-restraint and generosity, while obeying God's commandments. Because Ramadan is a lunar month, it begins about 11 days earlier each year. The end of Ramadan will be marked by communal prayers called Eid ul-Fitr, or the Feast of the Fast-Breaking, on Dec. 27.

On Tuesday, Baha'is will celebrate the ASCENSION OF ABDU'L-BAHA.
