The main reason I would think why Joseph Smith is not considered to
be a Manifestation of God, is because he never claimed to be one.
He did not claim to be Christ's return, he did not claim to be
infallible, etc. The Mormon Church does not claim he was infallible.
They do consider him to be a prophet, but their definition of
"prophet" is NOT the same as that of the Baha'is. It is not remotely
like the Baha'i definition of Prophet (Manifestation). I was a
member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
(an offshoot of the Mormon Church) for 24 years before becoming a
Baha'i, so I have a reasonably good idea of what is claimed about
Joseph Smith. Mormons would laugh at the thought of placing him on
any level remotely near that of Jesus Christ.

Peace,
Simeon
