: Dear friends,

: Occasionally I am asked about what help might be needed in posting Baha'i historical and academic material on the internet. Here is a summary list of the first things that come to mind. Though the exact legality of each will have to be checked, I believe that all of the below are out of copyright, and almost all would be quite useful to Baha'is doing both historical work and personal deepening.

: There are about 10,000 pages of Sacred Writings in Arabic and Persian that have been published and could be scanned; perhaps 100 books from the 1920's that should be scanned and posted and have gone out of copyright and another 100 earlier ones such as Browne which *must* go online soon; and a few ABS publications which are out of print and need to be scanned for the ABS--North America site. Then there are perhaps 30 or 40 old articles from publications such as Moslem World and Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society on the Babi and Baha'i Faiths which are out of copyright and should go up: a list can be found in Collins. As well, thousands of pages of Stars of the West and soon the first Baha'i World will be out of copyright, all of which should be scanned and posted. Between this site and a couple of other ones which are offering space, there are a few gigabytes of memory available to us, which is--needless to say--a good start! :-)

: Anyone who can volunteer help in scanning/typing any of those for submission to the internet is encouraged to contact me.

: Thank you, -Jonah

Could I make a suggestion : If this is to work it needs to be complete, not just a promise with no follow-through. H-Bahai claimed to post a few texts on their site late last year. Some of their books particularly KASH-ul-GHITAA remains under construction since last September. This demonstrates a complete disregard for users of the service. What I am saying is that, if the task seems an up-hill battle, do not attempt it at this stage. But if you think it is possible, DO NOT follow H-Bahai's example of poor and infrequent scanning.

Regards

Sepehr
