Epistle of the Báb Revealed for Mullá Ḥusayn Concerning the Practice of Dissimulation, Patience, and the Reward of the Faithful

Abstract: This study presents a provisional English translation of a profound Epistle revealed by the Báb for Mullá Ḥusayn, the precise date and place of whose revelation remain unknown.

The Epistle stands as a luminous testament to steadfastness, spiritual discernment, and the guarded exercise of faith under conditions of trial. Within it, the Báb expounds the divine origin and enduring nature of true knowledge, affirms the perpetual presence of God’s Proof upon the earth — whether manifest yet unrecognized or concealed — and extols those rare souls who adhere unwaveringly to the guidance of the Imáms. Central to the Epistle is the spiritual necessity of dissimulation as a means of preserving faith amid adversity, coupled with the assurance that divine truth is ultimately established while falsehood is effaced. Drawing upon authoritative sayings of the Imáms, the text offers both counsel and warning, emphasizing patience, discretion, and endurance.

Based on INBA Vol. 91, pp. 4–6, this translation seeks fidelity to the Epistle’s elevated diction, scriptural tone, and theological depth.
