Epistle of the Báb to His Beloved and Blessed Wife

Abstract: This sacred Epistle of the Báb, addressed to His Blessed Wife, is both tender counsel and a testament to His unwavering trust in the divine will. He exhorts His cherished spouse to seek inner serenity through constant glorification of God, placing her hope in the bounty and decree of the Almighty, and anticipating the ultimate reunion ordained by the Lord of the World. He expresses concern for the household’s welfare, emphasizing that true comfort lies solely in contentment with God’s decree, and concludes with affectionate salutations to His mother, the family, and blessings upon the Prophet Muḥammad and His kindred.

A postscript suggests the Epistle was composed in Tabriz, which, if the term Mashhad-i Fadá — “the field of sacrifice” — is taken literally, would place it shortly before the Báb’s martyrdom in 1850; absent further internal evidence, this dating remains tentative.
