Revealed during His sacred pilgrimage to Mecca in December 1844, this exalted Epistle of the Báb, entrusted to Quddús for delivery to the Sharīf, proclaims His divine mission. Though met with neglect, its spiritual majesty endures in this translation.

date of revelation

1844

Abstract: On 12 December 1844 C.E., the Báb, accompanied by Quddús, arrived in Mecca during the annual pilgrimage. While in the Holy City, the Báb revealed a momentous Epistle addressed to the Sharīf of Mecca, the spiritual head of the Islamic world. Composed in a tone of utmost solemnity and authority, this Epistle served as a formal proclamation of His divinely ordained mission. Entrusting the delivery of the Tablet to Quddús, the Báb directed that it be presented directly into the hands of the Sharīf. Despite the gravity of its message, the Sharīf—absorbed in his worldly affairs—failed to grasp the magnitude of the divine summons he had received.
