| abstract note | This paper examines some accounts published in English on the persecution of Bahá'ís in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Various writers have identified misinformation, perceived favoritism under the Shah's regime, charges of espionage, and theological conflicts with Islam as the main motives for the attacks on Bahá'ís. The response of certain parts of the international community, such as the United Nations, various governments, and the Bahá'í community itself, have helped mitigate the persecution in some respects, but have had little impact in other respects. |
