Included in this article are the preface and first chapter of this oft-cited work. Mirza Kazem-Beg was born in Rasht, 1802 and died in 1870; an orientalist of note, he was Prof. of Persian Literature at the Univ. of St. Petersburg (1849-60) and helped form the School of Oriental Languages of which he became dean in 1860. |
