Abstract Thornton Chase became a Bahá'í in Chicago and was called by 'Abdu'l-Bahá the first believer in America. Mr. Chase served on the Chicago House of Spirituality until he moved to Los Angeles, where he died in 1912. The papers consist largely of correspondence and copies of talks, articles and notes. The papers cover primarily Mr. Chase's years in Chicago and include some records of the Chicago House of Spirituality. There are also a number of manuscripts of articles written by Mr. Chase. A significant portion of Chase's personal correspondence was destroyed by Mrs. Chase and Louis Bosch.
