abstract	Carpenter offers a complimentary introduction to the Báb and compares the origins of Babism to that of Christianity. In a footnote, he reveals: "The late Master of Balliol [Benjamin Jowett] once told me that he thought that Babism might prove the most important religious movement since the foundation of Christianity." He ends the discussion with the following: "Its place in the history of religion will probably resemble that to which Christianity might have been limited, had it never left its Syrian home." In notes at the end of the book, he quotes many of E. G. Browne's early works and mentions 'Behá' as successor to the Bab. The entire lecture with notes was reprinted in Carpenter's Studies in Theology.
