abstract There are references in Bahá'í works to an "old history" which covered the events of the early years of the Bábí cause, probably written by Hájí Mírzá Jání Káshání. Browne's edition of the Kitáb-i-Nuqtatu'l-Káf is thought to be nearest to this yet untraced "old history." Much controversy surrounds the authenticity of some of the passages of this volume, the possibility of distortions, and the real identity of the author (Amanat, "The Early Years of the Babi Movement, Ph.D. dissertation, 1981). See Balyuzi's Edward Granville Browne and the Bahá'í Faith ; MacEoin, The Sources for Early Babi Doctrine and History, 1992.
