OUTLINE OF BAHÁ’Í HISTORY
More than eighty years ago, when East and West alike were struggling to emerge from the darkness of materialism and unbelief, the Bahá’í Cause arose with its assurance of a New Day. On May 23, 1844, a radiant youth of Persia, known as the Báb…

From then until his (sic) own ascension in 1921, 'Abdu’l-Bahá served the Cause as its appointed leader and interpreter, and through his unique devotion, purity of life, tireless effort and unfailing wisdom the message slowly but surely penetrated to all parts of the world.

Notes Little Ben indicates size, not pagination. Reprint of 1917 first edition.
Although there is no indication in the booklet, this is a reprint of the 1917 first edition (see Garis notes below).
The dimensions of this blue booklet are 1-1/2” x 1-3/4” with [48] pages (or [51] if non-blank covers are included). Page [44] has the name and address of the publisher with a note: “These little blue booklets $1.00 per hundred.” Page [45] to page [47] contains a list of addresses of Baha’i assemblies around the world beginning with, “INQUIRERS MAY ADDRESS BAHÁ’Í ASSEMBLY” and ending with “Addresses revised to February 1, 1926,” the likely publishing date.

In her book, “Martha Root, Lioness at the Threshold,” M. R. Garis related the following on p. 77-78:
“Another notable event at the ninth convention [April 1917 in Boston] was the appearance of small, blue teaching booklets put out by Roy Wilhelm. There were two sizes, one miniscule (less than two inches square) and the other somewhat larger. They were quickly dubbed 'Big Ben' and 'Little Ben'; their success was immediate. Originally given as favors at the Feast of Ridvan before the convention, the first edition of fifteen thousand was quickly sold and another seventy-five printed. These, too, were soon gone. They were constantly reprinted.
“Roy Wilhelm’s blue booklets became Martha’s standby, her best friends, when she started teaching trips throughout the world. They were translated into several languages and found their way into rich and humble, large and small, homes all over the globe. Big Ben and Little Ben were like a pair of wondrous stars appearing in the sky, taking on personalities of their own while helping others to accomplish their missions. For Martha they were indispensable.”
P. 78 photo of several of the booklets includes the caption:
“LITTLE BEN, a pamphlet less than two inches square, and BIG BEN, a pamphlet somewhat larger, were basic teaching booklets introduced by Roy Wilhelm at the Ninth Annual Mashrak-el-Azkar Convention in 1917. Martha Root had them translated into many languages and used them constantly in her travels around the world.”
