| Notes | Bahá'í Faith: pp. 40, 50n, 368 (Glossary): p. 40: "In 1863 Baha'u'llah announced to the few remaining follwers of Bab that He (sic) was the chosen Manifestation of God for this age... but he was not greeted with enthusiasm by the religious leaders of Islam." p. 50n: "Bab: Babism was a religious sect founded in Persia in 1844 by Mirza Ali Mohammed ibn-Radhik who took the name Bab-ud-din ("Gate of Faith"). He taught that revelation was progressive and never final, and proscribed concubinage, polygamy, mendicancy, slavery, and the use of intoxicating drinks or drugs." [Note: Evidently the entire passage of Merton's notes about the Bahá'í Faith were not included in this publication, as indicated by the "...".] |
