abstract The author studies the response of religions to the plight of the Dalits (untouchables) of India, particularly the role of Christianity as "the most egalitarian" religion. The author critiques the Bahá'ís for what he claims is their lack of success in creating egalitarian Bahá'í communities. He also states that the Bahá'í Faith has its main Indian existence in Malwa, and he based much of what he says about Bahá'ís on the dissertation by Garlington.
