abstract Discussion of the issue of Orthodox control over personal status and religious affairs in the state of Israel. The discussion is from the viewpoint of Conservative Judaism. Refers specifically to the situation of 15-year-old Grisha Pesahovich who was killed in a terrorist attack but was refused burial in Jewish cemeteries because only his grandfather's were Jewish (orthodox law requires that one be born of a Jewish mother, or converted according to halakha). The Bahá'í community agreed to his burial in the Jerusalem Bahá'í cemetery.
