abstract	In this article I have examined several factors that influenced the history of the Bahá'í Faith in Iraq. Despite the ban on promoting the Bahá'í Faith in Ottoman Iraq, a small community of Bahá'ís survived up to the British mandate, which granted them religious freedom. As a result they began to attract more adherents. Howver, the religion in Iraq never reached the numbers in Iran. The situation of the Bahá'ís began to deteriorate after the coup in 1958 and the subsequent fall of the Iraqi monarchy and the stablishment of a republic. After 2003, there was only a slight improvement of the Bahá'í situation, athough their local spiritual assemblies were restored after more than 30 years. They still lack any form of legal recognition.
