| Abstract | We are far from a peaceful world; the world appears more chaotic, complex and disordered. Disorder and chaos are universal characteristics of nature in physical and biological systems. Why should we expect human society to show systematic order and stability? Chaos and complexity are integral components of highly sophisticated systems, not to be feared. Complexity is essential to self-organization; without it, life and the universe could not exist. Complexity is also merciful, allwoing a toleration of errors, as long as those errors are within the bounds of moderation. |
