abstract	In 2008, Mahvash Sabet was arrested in Iran for helping her persecuted Baha'i community. She was fifty-five, a respected educator, a devoted mother and grandmother. For her faith, she received twenty years in prison. What happened next inspired the world. Alone in a cell in Iran's notorious Evin Prison, Mahvash began writing poetry. Verses about hope in darkness, beauty in suffering, and unshakable faith. Her poems were smuggled out on scraps of paper and published internationally, turning a silenced prisoner into a voice heard around the globe. After ten brutal years, she was released in 2018. Then they came for her again. In 2022, at age sixty-nine, she was arrested and sentenced to another ten years. Medical neglect brought her to death's door. In December 2024, she underwent emergency open-heart surgery while the world watched and waited. This is her complete story. From childhood in a small Iranian town to her career as an educator, from the Islamic Revolution that destroyed her livelihood to the underground university she helped create, from prison poems that moved thousands to her alliance with Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi this is the account of a woman who chose principle over safety and faith over freedom.
