| abstract | "Martha Root was one of the most famous Bahá'í teachers in modern history. She became a member of the Bahá'í Faith in 1908 and spend the rest of her life pioneering to other countries, particularly in South America, where she taught the Faith to large numbers of people. After her passing, Shoghi Effendi, Guardian head of the Bahá'í Faith from 1922 to 1957, posthumously appointed her a Hand of the Cause of God, a title reserved for outstanding teachers of the Faith. He wrote that the record of her international teaching work will "serve as a source of continued inspiration to the present-day and future generations of Bahá'í teachers, to whom she will be the very embodiment of those teaching qualities which only a few Bahá'í teachers, whether in the East or in the West, can claim to have attained.""-- Provided by publisher. |
