Abstract	"In Iran, apostasy is retroactive, and in a grim portent this year, active persecution has resumed of the Bahai faith, a religion scorned by the ayatollahs as a heretical nineteenth-century offshoor of Islam. In May, Iranian security police arrested 54 Bahais, who were then released without charges, the largest mass arrest since the early 1980s."
