Abstract Baha'ism is undoubtedly the most modest of the cultural and religious components of the Caucasus, but nevertheless it flourishes nowadays, especially in Azerbaijan and a little in Georgia. Born in the middle of the 19th century in Persia, on the margins of the Russian and Ottoman empires, it was not long before it found refuge in the Caucasus to escape the repression to which it was subjected in its country of origin. Although present in the region for more than a hundred and fifty years, Baha'ism is still poorly known to local populations and is the subject of many fantasies. Therefore, it seems necessary to us, before getting to the heart of the matter, to establish a synoptic table of this religion, which stems from Islam but maintains relations with it that are not easy.
Our study will focus on the articulation of two contradictory phenomena that have affected this community since the end of the Soviet era. On the one hand, because of the globalization of religion, it is experiencing a certain revival, facilitated by the establishment of links with foreign countries. On the other hand, the growing confusion between national identity and religious identity in Azerbaijan tends to dilute Baha'ism in national and official Islam, as it is promoted by the religious control institutions put in place by the post-Soviet state.
