Abstract	Momen rebuts Juan Cole's thesis that this Tablet confirms the idea that the Universal House of Justice has only a religious authoroity over the community but no role in "affairs of state." The article includes lengthy background to the discussion, the translation, a careful explanation of how the Tablet means the opposite of what Cole proposes, and a lengthy email from Dr. Cole attempting to refute Momen's critique. Momen answers the points in Cole's email.
