Abstract In this master's thesis I have looked at perceptions among Baha'is about the relationship between the sexes - do they describe it as equality, equity or something else? I have found that they use both equality and equity in the relationship between the sexes. To look at the relationship between the sexes, I have done fieldwork in the Oslo Baha'i community. Through a 14-month fieldwork, I have obtained a rich empirical material, with the main emphasis on interviews and conversations. In addition to my own obtained experience, I have also compared my findings with other Baha'i studies. The comparative angle of the thesis has put my findings into a larger research context. By looking at three other major studies, I have had the opportunity to look for similarities and differences between my and other researchers' findings. Based on my empirical data, I have firstly been able to look for general patterns that recur in the other studies, and secondly point to specific topics in a new way, and in that way contribute to seeing the topics from several perspectives. In the analysis, I have chosen the general term equality to refer to the relationship between the sexes in the Baha'i. Equality is linked to and analyzed through empirical data related to a Norwegian political context and the Baha'is' family life, religious leadership and missionary work.
