Title Thus Saith Thee: The King James Bible’s Impact on the Translation of Scriptures in English
Journal Mulberry
Author Ó Muireartaigh, Rossa
Year2014
Date 2014
Issue 63
Abstract The article investigates the impact of the Authorized (King James) translation of the Bible on the translation of scriptures into English, including the Book of Mormon, Bahá'í scriptures, esoteric, "Eastern", and Christian Science texts. The author is not well versed in the verbal conjugation and usage of the authorized King James language, as evidenced in the title and elsewhere, which should have been "Thus Sayest Thou" rather than "Thus Saith Thee." The explanation of the Bahá'í usage captures some of the reason, although it does not emphasize the importance Shoghi Effendi gave to the authorized translation as a standard of English language eloquence.
Notes Bahá'í Faith: pp. 12-14.
Research notes The specific Mulberry journal is not clear. There was a Mulberry poetry journal published in New Haven, CT, ISSN 0090-4953, starting in Nov. 1972. There was also a journal of this title for home schoolers. It is likely the first one. However, the pagination of the article is probably not what the pagination was in the published or online version.
