Abstract This study describes the perceptions that participants in the pilot program for Strengthening Service Capacities in Rural Welfare Promoters in La Celia (Risaralda) develop regarding the organic relationship between processes of individual and social change. Its purpose is to promote the development of attitudes and qualities that students need to work more effectively with members of their community on their service projects. The program is aimed at students in the eighth and ninth grades of basic secondary education and the tenth and eleventh grades of high school, participating in the alternative rural education model developed by the Foundation for the Application and Teaching of Sciences (FUNDAEC), called the Tutorial Learning System (SAT). In this system, the central focus of an integrated curriculum is community service, rather than a specific topic, activity, or subject. The Service Capacity Building Program relies heavily on a text entitled "Unleashing the Potential of the Pre-Youth," a work in progress developed by the Ruhí Institute, a FUNDAEC partner organization. Its purpose is to develop human resources who, through a careful process of study, practice, and reflection, become empowered to dedicate themselves to the social, cultural, and spiritual progress of humanity. The formation and development of this purpose presupposes a clear and dynamic vision of the organic relationship between individual and social change. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to descriptively establish this vision, identifying the various elements or ideas that constitute it. This contributes to validating the work in progress developed by the Ruhí Institute and provides program tutors with an increasingly solid foundation for promoting the initiation of social action by FUNDAEC's Service Capacity Building students.
