Abstract The Islamic Republic of Iran is bound by the customary law content of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In the constitution of Iran, however, equality rights only apply to Muslims. The protection of the citizens of the Islamic Republic through the law in the constitution is granted exclusively within the framework of the TwelveR Shiite interpretation of Islamic law. As a result, there are different rights for different people, depending on their gender and religion. How to discuss universal human rights in Iran on this basis and how to deal with them is the subject of the articles in this anthology.
