Abstract Martha Root (1872-1939) was an important early Bahá'í Faith communicator, and after her death was revered as a "Hand of the Cause of God." China is an important stop on her global missionary journey. The author sorted out clues from the vast ocean of Chinese and English newspapers and periodicals, and clarified the specific itinerary, daily life and teaching activities of Root's trip to China; especially her exchanges and cooperation with Chinese intellectuals and Chinese and English media. Due to the close relationship between Esperanto and Bahá'ís, this book also for the first time sorts out the spread of Esperanto in China in the early part of the last century, as well as Hu Shi, Hu Yuzhi, Cai Yuanpei, Zhou brothers, Yu Daoquan, Chen Yuan, Feng Shengsan's support and promotion of the Esperanto movement.
