Abstract	In addition to the translation of the Bible and the Qur’an, the twentieth century also witnessed an efflorescence in the translation of the literature of the Bahá’í Faith, the most recent of the world’s religions. Originally penned in classical style Arabic and Persian, a good portion of Bahá’í scripture has already been rendered into over 800 languages across the world (Volker 1990), and more Baha’i titles continue to be translated. This new phenomenon of scriptural translation, however, seems to have received scant notice from scholars in relevant fields. A pioneering work in this direction is Dianna Malouf 's (1997) case study of the authorized English translation of the Hidden Words (1923), a key Bahá’í text, but there have been few further studies. This chapter, therefore, offers a timely examination of the practice and history of Bahá’í translation in the Chinese contex, together with Bahá’í perspectives on translation, in comparison with other traditions of scriptural translation. It is hoped that this will spark scholarly interest in examining Bahá’í translation into other major languages as well. This chapter focuses on Bahá’í translation into Chinese in the first half of the twentieth century, during which period China underwent profound changes in literary conventions as well as political and ideological transformations.
