| Abstract | Mirza Ali Muhammad and Mirza Husayn Ali claimed prophethood and utilized various philosophical and religious arguments to strengthen their assertions. By attributing esoteric meanings to terms found in the Quran such as paradise, hell, resurrection, cloud, and barzakh, they expressed that the Quran foretold their existence. Mirza Ali Muhammad drew upon the Shia doctrine of "Bab," influenced by Hurufism, and engaged in certain Hurufi calculations, attempting to construct the foundations of his religion around the number nine. He shaped his discourse under the influence of Iranian traditions. On the other hand, Mirza Husayn Ali employed narratives concerning the Mahdi and Messiah, incorporating the "millennium" doctrine embraced by various Christian sects into his works. Benefiting from the opportunities afforded by his affluent background, Mirza Husayn Ali closely followed global developments, integrating the scientific advancements that began to gain recognition in the 19th century into the Baha'i faith, thereby accepting Darwin's theory of evolution and rejecting the classical doctrine of creation. |
