| Abstract | This article introduces into scholarly circulation for the first time the correspondence of O.S. Lebedeva, M. Thornburgh-Cropper, Riza Khan, and Mirza A. Mamedkhanly (Mamedkhanov) with Leo Tolstoy, allowing for a more complete understanding of the little-known aspects of the writer's interactions with representatives of the Baha'i faith. The aim of the study is to introduce and analyze new archival documents to clarify the chronology of the writer's interest in the Baha'i faith. Research methods include: diachronic, retrospective, textual analysis, and hermeneutic methods. The research materials consist of unpublished letters from Baha'i representatives to Leo Tolstoy and his replies. The analysis of the letters reveals the context of the correspondence and the writer's attitude towards the ethical and theological aspects of the Baha'i teachings. As a result of the study, the chronology has also been clarified: Leo Tolstoy continued his correspondence and polemics with Baha'is in 1910: J. Kahn, P. Polizoidi, A. Kasimov, and A. Mamedkhanly, after reading William James's book "The Varieties of Religious Experience" in December 1909. |
