| Abstract | As a manifestation of His mercy, Allah sent prophets to guide humanity. According to Islamic belief, the process of Prophethood, which began with Prophet Adam, ended with the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad. The end of prophethood has been discussed in theological literature under the concept of "the Seal of Prophethood" (Hatm-i Nübüvvet). Scholars of the Ahl al-Sunnah have reached a consensus that Prophet Muhammad is the last prophet, supporting this view with both textual and historical evidence. However, the emergence of the Baha'i movement in the 19th century has led to a different perspective on this issue, particularly through efforts to reinterpret verse 40 of Surah Al-Ahzab. The Baha'is argue that prophethood did not end with Prophet Muhammad and attempt to prove this by emphasizing the distinction between the terms "nabi" (prophet) and "rasul" (messenger). According to them, Prophet Muhammad is the last of the prophets, but not the last of the messengers. Through this claim, they have laid the groundwork for Bahá'u'lláh’s own claim to prophethood. In response to these claims, the Ahl al-Sunnah has rejected them, stating that Prophet Muhammad is both the last of the prophets and the last of the messengers. Furthermore, the Baha'is have been accused of stepping outside the boundaries of Islam due to their views on the Seal of Prophethood. This study will examine the issue of the Seal of Prophethood from a comparative perspective, focusing on the views of Ahl al-Sunnah and the Baha'is. First, the Ahl al-Sunnah's understanding of the Seal of Prophethood will be analyzed in the context of the Quranic verses and hadiths, and then this understanding will be related to historical developments. The Baha'i perspective on the Seal of Prophethood will be explored both through their own interpretations and in comparison with Ahl al-Sunnah's views. Through this approach, the issue of the Seal of Prophethood will be examined in detail, providing a comprehensive evaluation of both viewpoints. |
