Abstract Farhang and Guity were law abiding citizens of Iran who lived quiet lives and adhered to the tenets of their Bahá’í Faith. Both were actively involved in community activities and loved their country. When a new government targeted several members of the Faith, Guity escaped arrest and detention by happenstance. Her colleagues on the second National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís were not as fortunate.
Farhang immediately acted to protect his wife. Enlisting the help of family, friends and strangers, the couple fled their home and sheltered in secret locations. After hiding for several weeks in a remote village far from Tehran, Farhang and Guity reluctantly decided to flee Iran.
Accompanied by two traveling companions, husband and wife were transported from one country to another by a ragtag band of smugglers. The group traveled through rugged terrain and endured dangerous encounters before finally parting ways. Farhang documents their amazing journey through hostile territory as they faced impending capture, natural disasters, and terrifying hardships. Reluctant Escape is a must-read.
