abstract noteIn this article, based on various literary and historical documents and records, as well as records of Kim Eok himself and his acquaintances, the birth of Kim Eok, which has not been accurately identified, was confirmed as 1895, and the admission and graduation dates of Osan School were determined as 1909 and 1913. I checked the pen names of Kim Eok such as 'Seokcheon' and 'Kosari', and supplemented new works. In terms of the writer's life, I reconstructed his writer's activities and human side based on the materials of his close friends, Kim Dong-in and Gye Yong-muk. In terms of literary activities and networks, the writing and coterie activities in magazines Seoul, Seogwang, Creation, and Ruins, as well as communication and networks with literary acquaintances revealed in The Dance of Agony were considered. In terms of literary history, Kim Eok's literary activities and the publication of magazines were newly revealed. In particular, it was found that Kim Eok was the first person to document and inform Bahaism in Korea. Also, by introducing the literary journal Mask, founded by Kim Eok, for the first time in literary history, it dealt with the controversy between Kim Eok and Lee Sang Hwa over this literary journal. As such, before and after the publication of The Dance of Agony from the late 1910s to the mid 1920s, the scope of Kim Eok’s literary activities and the literary network were diverse and extensive. He played a notable role as a planner and practitioner of modern literature in the history of Korean literature by interacting with contemporary intellectuals while working in translation, lectures, writing, education, and publishing.
