| abstract note | The author attempts to describe Bahá'í prayer practices so that Bahá'ís and scholars of religion better understand and interpret these practices. Prayer is a process of "remembering." The author examines ways to understand Bahá'í prayer as remembrance, and how this might help students of Bahá'í worship practices better understand Bahá'í conceptions of God, human nature and the divine-human relationship. Bahá'í prayer is a process of understanding and then overcoming the problematic gap between the human and divine worlds. Obligatory prayers can be understood as a particularly efficacious practice of "re-membering" self, God and divine-human relationship. They are of special significance because they enlist both mind and body in a discipline of remembering. |
