| abstract note | This work discusses the Baháí Faith from the critical study of the Book of Certitude. The main objective of this work is to understand the role that Jesus plays within this religious system, with Islamic roots, and the reasons for his presence in one of the Baha'i Faith's founding books. As Baha'u'llah, the founder prophet of the Baha'i Faith, uses the result of his non-literal interpretation of the eschatological discourse of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, three hypotheses emerge: First, the choice of Matthew is not accidental; Second, the objective outcome of the interpretation from biblical text is to make the reader recognize the signs of Jesus's return in the Bible, in the figure of Bahá'u'lláh; Third, the revelation of the implicit meaning, in the symbolic language of sacred texts, has to be explained by an interpreter authorized by God, Bahá'u'lláh himself, who is responsible for unsealing the Scriptures, and revealing their true content. At the end of this work, we hope have achieved two main objectives: First, was to show the result of the symbolic interpretation of a sacred text within the understanding of the Baha'i Faith. Moreover, we intend to show the relevance to the Science of Religion of the understanding of symbolic language in the sacred texts, and the interpretation of sacred texts from the symbolic language perspective. Finally, we wanted to unveil the relevance of the figure of Jesus for a religious system whose immediate roots are in Shiite Islam. |
