Technical Notes
Browser Compatibility
Although
optimised for Internet Explorer 5, pages on this site are also
checked on Netscape 4.7, Netscape 6, and Opera 5 (see Note 1),
though screen layout on Netscape and Opera may differ slightly from
that intended. Nearly all information frames are restricted
to a width of 600 pixels so that they can be viewed on VGA
displays.
NOTE 1: Opera needs to be set up as follows: Preferences |
Document Appearance | unset User CSS's.
Frames
Most areas of
this site use frames to display a contents sidebar to aid
navigation. However, the user always has the option, on entering a
framed area, to select a no-frames display without losing the
comprehensive links incorporated into all pages.
Fonts
For best
results, Netscape should be set to default to Times New Roman 11pt,
and Internet Explorer to Times New Roman Medium (fonts that seem
right for most sites). Most fonts attributes on this site are
generated using CSS1 style sheets, in accordance with the
specification laid down in REC-CSS1-19990111. IE and Opera
implement this standard pretty well; Netscape 4, on the other hand,
ignores even some basic commands (e.g. superscript), leading to a
slight raggedness in display.
If you have any problems accessing this
site, please, do contact me and I will try to resolve
them.
