Mrs Angela Sidney was awarded the Order of Canada. She was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada on the 9th of April 1986.
One of the last living speakers of the Tagish language, she has been actively involved in recording oral history and publishing books containing songs, traditional stories and Tagish and Tlingit- language place names of the Southern Yukon. By doing so, this prominent elder in her community has made a major contribution to northern linguistic and ethnographic studies and to the preservation of the Native cultural heritage.
