Elimination of extreme wealth and poverty

Postby Fadl » Thu Jan 31, 2008 2:14 am

Elimination of extreme wealth and poverty is one of the teachings of Baha'u'llah, that is very near to the hearts of Baha'is. I have known many Baha'is who have become deeply involved and committed to many grass roots Social and Economic Development projects with the aim of improving the conditions of mankind.

In the world at large, it is interesting to note there are an ever increasing number of businesses and corporations around the world who market their goods and services at least in some part, based upon social and ethical responsibility and not just profit. Corporate citizenship, fair trade, and other altruistic notions of business are becoming increasingly popular, not to mention the trend among consumers who attempt to use their purchasing decisions as a mechanism to influence the practices of businesses and corporations.

Additionally, the rise of organizations such as Kiva which enable people to network and pool together small financial resources to have a big impact, is also an incredible trend that is exciting and full of potential. (see commercial Kiva thread)

I never cease to be amazed at the transformative power the revelation of Baha'u'llah has continued to exert on this planet. What an age we live in! There is no shortage of challenges in this world, however, looking at many of the global trends, and knowing the teachings of Baha'u'llah, one can't help but be filled will hope and wonder about the future!

yes

it is only through the His Word
that mankind can grasp
How to "carry forward an ever advancing civilization"

*smile*

only by following His Laws
to the best of our ablities
will the extremes of wealth and poverty be elimanted

for no matter how mankind may wish to achieve this goal
only Baha'u'llah can inspire us to understand & practice
Huq
{the Right of God}
within our lives

yes, but He has set the world on fire.

the blamers will be surprised that they themselves have been out there doing his bidding.

the poor/weak have always suffered

that is what is changing.

what will the Presidents, the Prime Minsters, the Dictators be thinking of ?

they will be thinking about stinging pain coming from the orange juice soaked wound in the palm of their hand.

then the whole world will begin the party

"Why is the vast majority of the world’s peoples sinking ever deeper into hunger and wretchedness when wealth on a scale undreamed of by the Pharaohs, the Caesars, or even the imperialist powers of the nineteenth century is at the disposal of the present arbiters of human affairs?"

yes ... interesting enough ... i have been talking to an individual lately whom whole heartedly endorses and teaches that only the self can be trusted and therefore is the basis of all philisospical and/or governmental operations

he gave me a book from written by Ann Rand ... it was so/so ... condeming collectivism and exalting individualism ...

hmmm ... it seems as if so much of American thought is based upon selfish thought ...

i do wonder if there is any contemporary books upon selflesssness ?
