It's great to see another such resource, and an attractive one too. I hope it will grow. I do wish though that we Baha'is would research and collaborate more to save ourselves and others the work of duplicating efforts:

best wishes,

I should add though that none of the resources I listed to give a correspondence of the Synopsis entries to the texts, though Habib Riazati's could probably be used to find that information...

This site is kinda different though. It allows users to quickly search through the notes and makes cross-referencing much much easier

This is what it says on his About page:
http://www.theaqdas.org/about.php

Idea
During one of his Thursday evening study classes, Mr. Dunbar mentioned that we should attempt to cross-reference everything in the Synopsis and Codification of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas to the verses, questions and answers and notes. I decided to start doing that.

After starting with the referencing, I realized that I had pretty much everything already in the database to put the entire Aqdas online. Even though there are plenty of sites available with the content, I still hope this site can provide something of use, mainly thanks to the search, cross-referencing and fullindex functions.

A big thank you also to everyone who has helped me out in one way or the other (see bottom of this page)!

I didn't mean to sound like a curmudgeon. As I mentioned in my second post, I do see that this project has added a very valuable cross-referencing of the Synopsis to the text and notes. (I actually hope someone might use this information to prefer a cross-reference list and submit it here.)

I guess I was just taking an opportunity (and I shouldn't have, since I didn't intend at all to detract from this person's efforts) to express my discontent with a lack of collaboration among Baha'i developers. I'll start a new thread...

Well, there's at least some coordination underway!

There are over 40 Baha'is currently working on the Baha'i Sacred Works Project, which prepares various Baha'i books for release to online sites!

(I'm one of them, and in the past year have done five or six books myself, including the entire Lights of Guidance.)

So good (and organized!) things are indeed happening. . . . :-)

Hello Bruce,

There are over 40 Baha'is currently working on the Baha'i Sacred Works Project, which prepares various Baha'i books for release to online sites!

There is an official Sacred Writings project. I'd hope that for the Writings, people would be collaborating with that project, so that the institutions can make these available, and do so with all corrections, etc. Send me a private message if you'd like to be in touch with the project (if you're not already).

As far as books which are not yet already being proofread or which are less directly related to the Writings but which it may be advantageous to share online, why not work with us at http://bahai-library.com ? Jonah developed an upload mechanism so people could contribute themselves. Jonah has expressed openess for even the code for the site to be made open source, if I could ever find a programmer (or two or more) who'd be willing to help, so the site can truly be all of ours. Likewise have we encouraged authors to specify open terms for their content.

(I'm one of them, and in the past year have done five or six books myself, including the entire Lights of Guidance.)

I hope you used a digital copy that was already available, such as the one at this site or in Ocean.

I use the copies the project provides me.

I'm sure they have procedures in place to make sure they start with the best available copies!

Bruce

A few things really quick...

I was confused Bruce, because you referred to it as the "Sacred Writings Project" instead of the Proofreading Project. Also, as far as a collaborative coding project, I really meant one to develop an application collaboratively, as I am most definitely aware of the great work being done by the proofreading project.

One very helpful thing I noticed about the http://theaqdas.org/ site (its Synopsis pages). If you disable page styles via your browser (in Firefox, View->Page Style->No style), you can see all of the Synopsis entries with the paragraphs, questions, and notes inline. Very helpful. (though if anyone is in touch with its author, I'd suggest putting the Questions and Answers before the notes, since they were from Baha'u'llah).

And if, with the author's permission (required I think since his compilation is somewhat interpretive) one could rewrite the site to display the entries as headings, you could use such things as the Document Map Firefox extension to navigate through the page's headings (without needing to switch on CSS and JavaScript).

all the best,
Brett

Friends,

There are also these sources for the study of the Aqdas:

and
