Hand of the Cause William Sears

Postby larry » Tue Mar 29, 2011 1:58 pm

Dear Friends,

Does anyone know where I can find the story about William Sears being appointed to be a Hand of the Cause, His reply to Shoghi Effendi and the Guardian's response?

I've tried searching the internet with no success and it is not in Lights of Fortitude.

Thank you,
Larry

I know a written account exists but don't know where to find it.

But I do remember hearing him tell us about the experience (during the Oklahoma City youth converence in 1973).

He was in South Africa at the time and had received a whole stack of telegrams and was driving along in his car while reading them.

They said things like "Congratulations!" and "Great news!"--he had no idea why.

Then eventually he got to the telegram from Shoghi Effendi appointing him a Hand of the Cause, at which point he suddenly slammed on his brakes and sat there in shock in the middle of traffic trying to absorb the impact!

I still vividly recall that story 38 years later. :-)

Dear Bruce,

Thank you for sharing what you know about this story. There is a tidbit on YouTube at the 11:00 minute spot that talks about how Mr. Sears learned he was appointed Hand of the Cause via a cable message while driving in his car - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-OlHG1G ... re=related

Thanks again,
Larry
