US/Canada history

Postby njoy » Thu Sep 11, 2014 3:58 pm

Does anyone know who George Latimer's Baha'i teacher was? Lua Getsinger, perhaps? When and where would be good to know, too. Mr. Latimer taught Austin Collin who was one of the four original declarants in British Columbia according to Will van den Hoonard. The first, according to Austin, who was my teacher, but I gather some question that.

I'm trying to do a "family tree" for a young friend. It would be fun to trace it back to a Letter of the Living. That would involve knowing how Kheirullah got involved (or his family).

Lots of topics, here.

Don't find anything definitive.
Horace Holley says he "was born into and grew up wlth a family of pioneer Baha'is. His spiritual environment from youth was Baha'i." (BW Vol X, 511)
Stockman in his Vol 2, chap 14, says Thorton Chase was an important teacher for Portland in the years when James W and Josephine (Rouhanieh) Latimer became Baha'is.
I rather think the best bet is the eccentric Nathan Fitz-Gerald tho' Hyde Dunn, Ella Cooper and Isabella Brittingham also travel taught in Portland at that time.
There is a 'file" of George Latimer papers at the USBNC.

Understood properly, all man's problems are essentially spiritual in nature.
